Auclair Right Blend

2009 was our first year on Red Mountain. We start out with our "Right" Blend. This wine focuses on the Right Bank of Bordeaux and highlights Red Mountain fruit from that perspective. This wine is 75% Merlot with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. It's a beauty with a nose that fills the glass and has you coming back to sniff it again and again, eventually you will get around to tasting it and it won't disappoint, with juicy flavors of dark cherry, dark chocolate, some hints of blackcurrant and spice round it out and the finish will knock you out. This wine has the structure to put in your cellar for 5-10 years or you can take it home, throw it in a decanter and have it for dinner tonight.

Auclair Left Blend

Our next wine is our "Left" Blend. This wine focuses on the Left Bank of Bordeaux and highlights Red Mountain fruit from that perspective. We started out with our best Cabernet Sauvignon and blended in some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. This wine is all about structure and elegance. It starts off in the glass with aromas of blackcurrant, violets, green pepper and cigar box. The palate stays on track with the blackcurrant, adds some green peppercorn and anise and also shows the Merlot's influence with a little juicy black cherry. The finish goes on and on. This wine will cellar beautifully and like a fine Bordeaux easily live 10-15 years or longer. However if you can't wait that long it will drink nicely with a few hours in the decanter.

Sauvignon Blanc

2010 continued our evolution with Bordeaux style white wines. I sourced Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from Fred Artz vineyard again and the results were very good. The grapes were fermented in stainless steel to keep the grapes focused and the wine crisp and fresh. The yeast used was specially selected to highlight the natural aromatics in the grapes. There are wonderful aromas of lime, grapefruit, fresh cut grass with hints of wild honey for the nose to pick out. The wine was left on the lees for 5 months to develop complexity on the mid palate and chilled to prevent malolactic fermentation and keep the wines natural acidity for a long crisp finish. The wine starts off with some nice tropical citrus fruit flavors, grapefruit, lime, honey are dominant with a little meyer lemon to be found. The finish is crisp and refreshing showing good acidity and balance.
Recommended pairing is wild prawns sauteed with chili power and fresh lime juice.

Merlot

96 Cedars is our "second" label and 2008 was its debut. This wine has a huge nose that just flows from the glass; lots of juicy cherry with undertones of spice, and cedar. There are hints of cassis and pepper on the nose from the other 2 varietals I included to round out the flavors. The pallet is full and mouth filling with lots of fruit and a nice lingering finish with some sour fruit tannins and a little spice on the end that linger for some length.

Recommended pairing is a steak off the BBQ with Montreal seasoning.
